Need a break from downtown city life but don’t have the time for a day trip to Annapolis? Why not give Bethesda a try! Located just outside of the D.C. city limits, Bethesda is a friendly and beautiful community in suburban Maryland. Probably best known for being the home of the National Institutes of Health and the National Naval Medical Hospital (where the president gets his checkups), Bethesda has so much to offer – come see for yourself!
Bethesda Row – with over 60 restaurants and shops in its four block square, Bethesda Row is the heart of the area’s growing social scene. Staying true to its tagline of “an uncommon mix of life and style,” you can find anything from upscale boutiques like Urban Chic to unique restaurants like Redwood. The Row also offers fan favorite haunts like Barnes & Noble, the Apple Store, Cosi and Vapainos. Be sure to cap your night off with a movie at Landmark Cinemas, the sister location to downtown DC’s E Street Cinemas, which offers a great selection of new releases and lesser known independent films. Located on the red line, Bethesda Row easily accessible from the Bethesda metro stop and is the perfect spot for a fun night out with friends.
Bethesda FreshFarm Market – nothing is better than food directly from the source! Saturday mornings are not complete without a stop at the Bethesda FreshFarm Market. Located on Norfolk Avenue between Fairmont and St. Elmo Avenues, this outdoor market is a go-to place for pasture-raised meets and eggs, artisan cheeses, fresh fruits and vegetables, breads and bake goods, cut flowers, plants and more. The market is open rain or shine from 9am-1pm every Saturday through the beginning of November.
Strathmore – located just north of the beltway is Strathmore, a performing arts facility that provides affordable, accessible, multi-disciplinary arts programming to the Bethesda community. Through its three venues on the 11 acre Strathmore campus, you can experience world renowned artists from the disciplines of music and theater. Strathmore partners with a number of area organizations including the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, the National Philharmonic, and the Washington Performing Arts Society, just to name a few.
