Change of Scenery- Great Fall Day Trips

No one will disagree that Washington, DC is a lively city full of history, culture, and plenty of fun. However, everyone likes a scenery change once in a while, and the fall is a great time to take some day trips and explore what the surrounding area has to offer.

Annapolis, MD

  • Tour the U.S. Naval Academy and see firsthand where officers of the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps undergo their vigorous training
  • Order the world’s largest milkshake at Chick & Ruth’s Delly or visit local favorites such as Mike’s Restaurant and Crab House or Skipper’s Pier to chow down on delicious crabs
  • Learn about the rich history of oysters in the Chesapeake Bay at the Annapolis Maritime Museum
  • Visit the Maryland House, the oldest state capitol in continuous legislative use

Baltimore, MD

  • Take a walk around the Inner Harbor to experience this scenic and historic Maryland seaport
  • Visit the National Aquarium, named one of the nation’s best aquariums by the Travel Channel
  • Spend an afternoon exploring the American Visionary Art Museum for some creative inspiration
  • Order crab cakes at one of the city’s most renowned restaurants such as Faidley Seafood, Koco’s Pub, or Henninger’s Tavern

Alexandria, VA

  • Stroll the streets of Old Town for some great shopping and dining with a rich historic flair
  • Get your taste of the arts at the Torpedo Factory Art Center
  • Embrace the picturesque Potomac River on a dinner cruise
  • Visit Mt. Vernon, George and Martha Washington’s riverfront estate, and see the place our nation’s first president used to call home

Philadelphia, PA

  • Be sure to get Philly cheese steaks from rival joints, Pat’s and Geno’s, and decide for yourself who truly does it best
  • Visit the Liberty Bell in Independence Hall and the National Constitution Center to feel in touch with our nation’s history
  • Don’t leave the city of brotherly love without stopping by Reading Terminal Market for some great grub and unique shopping
  • Peruse the shops on South Street for a trendy and diverse taste of Philadelphia

New York, NY

  • Explore Times Square and see why people refer to NYC as the city that never sleeps
  • Do some high end retail therapy on 5th Avenue then swing by the Metropolitan Museum of Art
  • Enjoy the crisp fall weather in Central Park
  • Take care of your big appetite at the original Carmine’s family style Italian restaurant
