Labor Day has come and gone, and we are in the midst of transitioning from summer to fall. September has flown by so far, but even though we are halfway to October there are still plenty of great DC events to take advantage of this month!
The Virginia Wine Festival, the largest wine festival in Virginia, featuring wine tastings from 50 Virginia wineries, gourmet food samples, seminars, concerts, arts and crafts and more. Seminars include everything from wine and food pairing to wine history to planning a tour of Virginia’s wineries. The festival is located at the Great Meadow Foundation in The Plains, VA, and a shuttle is also available from the Vienna Metro stop.
Tickets for general admission (21 and older) are $30. There are also $18 tickets available for non-tasting attendees with free non-alcoholic beverages all day.
This annual open-house features several of Kalorama’s most beautiful homes, including the elegant residence of the Ambassador of Austria, the recently redecorated residence of the Ambassador of Portugal, the bright and modern Embassy of Slovenia, and the President Woodrow Wilson House, now celebrating the centennial of Wilson’s Presidency. Tickets include a self-guided map detailing the architecture and history of each stop.
Tickets cost $35 in advance, and proceeds benefit The President Woodrow Wilson House. This event does not require an RSVP.
The H Street Festival is an annual street festival designed to showcase the unique qualities of this vibrant Washington, DC community. The event is a part of the revitalization strategy to bring attention to the developing arts and entertainment district at the eastern end of the H Street NE corridor. The festival will be located on H Street, between 8th & 14th Streets, NE with the closest Metro stations being Union Station and New York Avenue.
The Green Festival is a consumer show in Washington, DC focusing on sustainability education and green products and services. The event features two days of activities, workshops and special presentations to educate the public on healthy lifestyle choices. It will be held at the Washington Convention Center, and admission is $10 online, $15 at the door, and free for anyone who rides a bike to the event and parks with the Clif Bar bike valet.
Located at the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium, the Annapolis Craft Beer and Music Festival offers a full day of fun for the beer enthusiast. The event features tastings from regional and national artisan breweries as well as beer seminars such as “Beer 101” and “Pairing Craft Beer and Food.” Attendees will also enjoy live music, craft exhibits, and specialty food.
DC Fashion Week is a weeklong event that highlights the visibility of the nation’s capital as a center of international fashion. The event produces runway shows at multiple venues throughout Washington, DC to put a spotlight on the influence of world cultures on American fashion.
