For those of you who follow Top Chef on Bravo, Spike Mendelsohn is likely a name you have heard before. In addition to earning recognition for his culinary excellence on reality television, Chef Spike is also an important asset to the DC community where he not only operates three delicious eateries but volunteers his time to give back.

IPVS-Awards-107This past summer, the Institute on Philanthropy and Voluntary Service presented him with the 2013 David R. Jones Leadership in Voluntary Service Award. Mendelsohn was honored for his work with Horton’s Kids, a nonprofit whose mission is to educate and empower the children of DC’s Ward 8.

A quality chef, serving up quality food is certainly something to celebrate, and his restaurants are well worth a visit! Chef Spike Mendelsohn has three distinct yet equally delicious restaurants in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Washington: a burger joint, a pizza parlor, and his newest endeavor, which puts a modern twist on the classic steak frites.

Good Stuff Eatery– Serving up handcrafted burgers, handcut fries, handspun shakes and farm fresh salads, this American-inspired menu is crafted with fresh local ingredients and can be enjoyed at three DC area locations.

We, The Pizza– This Italian-American pizza place features a wide range of flavorful pies, specialty sodas, and authentic gelato. The business model also focuses on community empowerment, and We, The Pizza sponsors various DC nonprofits to promote their philanthropic missions.

Béarnaise– The newest addition to Chef Spike Mendelsohn’s restaurant repertoire is a reflection of culinary experiences in Montreal and Paris. In business with his sister Micheline, their goal is to offer a modern twist of a classic steak frites.

So next time you find yourself down by Capitol Hill, bring your appetite and enjoy one of these delicious hot spots!
